Crack of Dawn Tailgate

Love Me Some Husker Football.

This week's football game started at 11, so we bebopped downtown around 8 to see what was going on. Julie stayed with Cullen for a few hours so we could have a "morning off." It's funny what a few hours away from your kid can do. I swore he grew an inch, and it just seemed like I missed him so much.
We tailgated a bit with a company that uses Saint Elizabeth as an outreach lab. Quest Diagnostics hosted a very nice party at the Champions Club. Tyler and I enjoyed our morning meeting the hosts and people watching from the patio deck across the street from Memorial Stadium. Breakfast included smoked BBQ ribs, potato casserole, cinnamon baked carrots, apple crisp and bloody marys! (Now you KNOW I didn't let him get away without snapping a few photos!)

The Huskers played UCLA and looked good until the second half. Basically, in the words of my intelligent husband, they "took this exact route last year" when we got our rear ends handed to us by the end of the game. It was a bittersweet game as UCLA was playing for their lost teammate who died by a car accident a week ago. All competitiveness aside, Ron Brown led the prayer post game as usual. Winning didn't really matter in that brief moment after the game. Seeing the whole UCLA team praying with our team on the field while holding hands gave me goosebumps. Made me proud that with all the crazy comments people make, the win-or-die followers, the rude fans from other schools, the Huskers stadium (though inappropriately big and full of too many gadgets!!) came together for a common purpose.  Complete success of a Saturday.

We got home and totally crashed when Cullen fell asleep. This being a parent and throwing in the fun mornings is hard work!!
